A Romantic Catholic Ceremony in San Antonio
Their day began with a traditional Catholic mass in San Antonio. The ceremony was simple, elegant, and deeply emotional. There wasn’t an ounce of rush or performance. Mari and Cody stood side by side in a sacred space, soaking in every prayer, every glance, every held hand.
They chose to get ready with a small, intimate wedding party. No chaos. No unnecessary noise. Just the right people.
Before the ceremony, they shared a private first look on the church steps. When Cody turned around and saw Mari for the first time, his reaction was unforgettable. He burst into laughter — the kind that bubbles up when you’re overwhelmed in the best way — with the biggest, most unfiltered smile on his face. Growing up in Hawaii, Cody carries this effortlessly cool, charismatic energy. He’s chill, warm, fully himself. Seeing him completely blown away by Mari was pure joy.
Mari balances him beautifully. She has an elevated, graceful presence. Together, they move through the world — and their wedding day — with ease. No stress. No micromanaging. Just trust and intention.
A Reception at the UTSA School of Arts
Their reception took place at the stunning UTSA School of Arts, specifically inside the historic chapel at the Southwest Campus. If you’ve never stepped inside, it’s nothing short of cinematic. The architecture feels almost otherworldly — dramatic ceilings, rich textures, and an old-world charm that genuinely gives Harry Potter vibes.
The UTSA School of Arts wedding venue offers something rare in San Antonio: historic character paired with intimate warmth. The private courtyard, where Mari and Cody hosted their cocktail hour, allows guests to spill outside under the open sky while still feeling tucked away in something sacred and timeless.
Before joining cocktail hour, we snuck away for portraits along the San Antonio River Walk. The contrast between the lively city energy and the stillness of their connection created some of my favorite frames of the day. Nothing forced. Nothing overly posed. Just movement, laughter, and that steady closeness they share.
A Wedding Rooted in Presence
What stood out most about this UTSA School of Arts wedding wasn’t elaborate décor or over-the-top production. It was intention.
Mari and Cody prioritized time with their guests. They mingled. They hugged. They laughed long and freely. They weren’t disappearing for extended photo sessions or worrying about perfectly styled details. They were present.
As a photographer, this kind of day lends itself beautifully to a documentary approach. Instead of manufacturing moments, I was able to observe and preserve them. The glances across the courtyard. Cody mid-laugh with college friends. Mari leaning into her parents during a quiet pause. These are the images that endure.
The historic chapel at the UTSA School of Arts provides such a rich visual backdrop that it doesn’t require excess. The architecture carries the atmosphere. The candlelight reflects naturally. When a couple shows up grounded and in love, that’s all you need.
For the Couple Who Values Meaning Over Excess
If you’re drawn to the UTSA School of Arts as a wedding venue, chances are you appreciate artistry, history, and a setting with soul. It’s perfect for couples who value quality time over production, intimacy over extravagance, and emotion over perfection.
Mari and Cody’s day was simple. It was beautiful without trying too hard. And what made it extraordinary was watching them genuinely enjoy every second.
At the end of it all, that’s what lasts — not the frill, not the spectacle — but the feeling of having been fully there with the right people.
And the UTSA School of Arts is a place that holds that kind of wedding beautifully.
